Numeracy

numeracy01 450At St Peter Julian Eymard Mooroolbark we teach mathematics to equip children with the knowledge, skills and understandings required to engage in the world, both at a local and global level.

We aim to foster mathematical thinking that empowers students to reason, problem solve and explore mathematical concepts, in order to be able to apply them successfully in a variety of experiences.

The Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS) together with the Australian Curriculum form the basis for the mathematics curriculum.

Teachers meet regularly to plan units of work that promote mathematical understandings based on key concepts.

In 2010-2012 Saint Peter Julian Eymard is participating in the Contemporary Learning and Teaching in Mathematics project which will involve all teachers in coordinated professional learning in Mathematics, working closely with Australian Catholic University and Catholic Education Office Melbourne.
