Reading | Writing | Speaking & Listening
At SPJE, we believe that English is central to the learning and development of our students.
At SPJE, literacy instruction embraces the MACS' Vision for Instruction, ensuring all students develop the skills needed to become confident communicators, imaginative thinkers, and informed citizens. Through a structured approach that prioritises explicit instruction and phonics-based teaching, we provide targeted learning experiences in Listening and Speaking, Reading and Viewing and Writing. Our rich and engaging curriculum challenges students to analyse, understand, and communicate effectively, fostering ethical and informed participation in society. Students engage in purposeful learning, including reading and discussing quality texts, writing for authentic audiences, and developing oral communication skills. This evidence-based approach ensures that every learner receives the support and challenge needed to reach their full potential.
Explicit Instruction.
Purposeful Activities.
Literacy instruction at SPJE incorporates explicit instruction in the curriculum areas of Listening and Speaking, Reading and Viewing, Writing, Spelling, and Grammar. Within a rich, engaging, and challenging curriculum, students enjoy reading and discussing wonderful stories, writing in creative ways for a real audience, and in the senior years, participating in debates and giving oral presentations.
Literacy Intervention
For students that require additional support in the area of literacy, SPJE has a dedicated literacy intervention expert to provide targeted support and skills to students that complement the learning that is happening in the classroom.
